Pierre-Yves Guillaume is our Head of Sales West Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. Based in Nice. discover his new role at Amadeus Rail, and how it contributes to making rail booking easier in Asia and in Europe.
Tell us about your role at Amadeus Rail?
I am responsible for handling the commercial activity for some European markets, as well as Africa and
"Our flagship suite of rail solutions, RAILyourWAY is rock solid and definitely here to stay."
How does your role help make rail booking easier?
Making rail booking easier is somehow a simple concept, but in reality, it requires a high level of expertise. The rail industry technology is incredibly complex and is non-standardized.
"The best way to make rail booking easier? Making it desirable and visible for today's traveler."
We observe an increasing convergence from our customers and we endeavor to be the rail technology company to power their platforms. By understanding their needs we can support their growth.
What has been your most rewarding moment working for Amadeus Rail so far?
Literally every day. I love what I am doing. Not a single day seems like the other when you are building a business. First successes are truly highly rewarding moments. The entire Amadeus Rail Team is committed to making rail booking a success.
What excites you about working in the rail industry?
This industry is often seen as conservative to change, but this statement is rather unfair if not false. Over the last years, we have started walking through the European rail deregulation, together with the long-haul coach travel ecosystem blossom and collaborative economy rise. All of this is challenging today's railways old operating and customer service models. We are at the dawn of a new digital-customer-centric era and it is exciting to be part of this journey to help the business moving forward.
What’s your favorite travel destination?
My best destination is the one where I would be with my beloved ones, wherever it might be. Being on the road for work for over 15 years allowed me to experience stunning destinations. But I would unearth beautiful memories from Iran, Lebanon, Japan, Hong Kong, Arctic, Namibia, Myanmar, Italy… always with old friends and family.
What’s your favorite app?
The one to access all: my AppStore! To elaborate further, I just can’t do anything without my taxis, banking, utilities, social media, Spotify, IM, FaceTime, digital press and international broadcast… and of course my 30+ travel apps. You are virtually home everywhere and it’s a cool feeling.
