Last May, Amadeus Rail sponsored the Deutsche Bahn Mobility Symposium in Frankfurt. The conference focus was on the challenges and opportunities that Mobility 4.0 offer and how the Internet of Things (IoT) can power multimodality.
Technology: the opportunity for the rail industry
New technologies and new rail distribution channels are disrupting new entrants and challenging traditional transport providers. But technology is also bringing opportunities to the rail industry.
"We need to look for the door-to-door multimodality, rather than just to focus on the station-to-station" Dr. Manuel Rehkopf, SVP Marketing, DB long-distance
In the future, deciding on a transport mode will be much easier, thanks to multimodal trip apps that will take rail mobile technology to the next level.
Ulrich Reinhardt from the Foundation for Future Studies outlined that Generation Z or Millennials travelers don't need to own a car, due to the trend of the sharing economy. That's why we need to provide customers with a wide tool that allows multimodal travel search.
Improving multimodal travel search
We are leading a consortium on the All Ways Travelling European Union initiative to create a multimodal travel network and make booking door-to-door travel possible. Working together towards the same goal: providing a multimodal European rail booking system, we will make rail a true alternative to travel.
