Author: Eve-Marie Morgo

This month we introduce Michael Stalter, Head of Sales & Account Management for Northern, Central, and Eastern Europe & America. Read on as Michael shares his impressions of being a part of Amadeus Rail Team and reveals what excites him the most about working in the rail industry.

Tell us about your role at Amadeus Rail

I'm in charge of the Sales and Account Management for Northern, Central, and Eastern Europe as well as America. Together with my team, we are working on the ambition of making rail travel seamless, developing and implementing personalized rail distribution and train booking software.

Also, we are working every day to enrich Amadeus vision of connecting additional rail carriers to our global Rail GDS.

How does your role help make rail booking system easier?

"By connecting more and more railways to our Rail GDS, we enable travel sellers to sell rail travel, as an international and seamless experience."

The younger generations, such as Generation Z or Millennials, love to do their planning and booking in their mobile phones. We connect Online Travel Agencies via rail web services to our Rail GDS.

Lastly, thanks to our innovative Rail IT solutions, we enable railways to offer high-quality services to their customers. Having a nice meal at your seat and getting real-time traffic information about your journey is only one click away.

What has been your most rewarding moment working for Amadeus Rail so far?

Every day being in touch with my customers is a really rewarding moment for me. Being part of the Amadeus Rail family and feeling the power and ambition we have as a team is another rewarding moment I have every day.

What excites you about working in the rail industry?

Two things excite me about working in the rail industry. Number one - the experience of traveling high-speed rail is amazing. You can travel from city to city at 300 km/h, enjoy your meal, check your emails, prepare your next meeting or just relax. Number two - the power I feel of an industry which is often seen as old-fashioned and conservative to anticipate the digital revolution.

What's your favorite travel destination?

I really love to travel in two different ways. To relax, I love traveling to the Alps. Skiing in winter and mountain biking in summer are great! I bring back all the energy needed. The other way is to discover cities around the world. London and Vancouver are the most exciting cities I have visited so far. London because of its multiculturalism and its power to reinvent itself every day, and Vancouver because it is a very clean and tidy city, with the Pacific ocean on one side and the Rocky Mountains on the other.

What is your favorite app?

I am an Apple evangelist. First, I love the Wallet app - all my tickets in one app. Second, the DB Navigator - journey planner, booking and real-time information all in one app. Last but not least, I like using WhatsApp.
