This month we present Michael Stalter, our newly appointed Head of Business Development. Read on as Michael shares his first impressions of being a part of Amadeus Rail and reveals the two things that excite him the most about working in the rail industry.
Tell us about your role at Amadeus Rail
I'm in charge of the Business Development Team on the provider's side. Together with my team, we are working on the ambition to shape the future of travel. Intermodality and digitalisation are key success factors for our customers. In Business Development, it is our task to bring the tremendous expertise of Amadeus in these areas to our customers and to reflect their business challenges to our internal departments.
How does your role help make rail booking system easier?
With connecting more and more providers on our Rail GDS, we enable travel agencies to sell a real intermodal and international travel experience. For the generations Y and Z which love to do their planning and booking online, we connect the Online Travel Agencies via web services to our Rail GDS as well. Based on our innovative Rail IT solutions, we enable the rail operators to offer high-quality services to their customers. Having a nice meal at your seat and getting real time traffic information about your journey is only one click away.
What has been your most rewarding moment working for Amadeus Rail so far?
Wow, every day being in touch with my customers is a really rewarding moment for me. Being part of the Rail Family of Amadeus and feeling the power and ambition we have as a team is another rewarding moment I have every day.
What excites you about working in the rail industry?
Two things excite me about working in the rail industry. Number one - the travelling with High-Speed train is amazing. You can travel from city to city with 300 km/h, enjoy your meal, check your emails, prepare your next meeting or just relax. Number two - the power I feel of an industry which is often seen as old-fashioned and conservative to anticipate the digital revolution.
What's your favourite travel destination?
I really love to travel in two different settings. To relax, I love travelling to the Alps: skiing in winter and mountain biking in summer are great and bring back all the energy I need. To discover major cities in the world is another way of travelling I like. London and Vancouver are the most exciting cities I have visited so far: London because of its multiculturalism and its power to reinvent itself every day, and Vancouver because it is a very clean and tidy city, with the Pacific ocean on one side and the Rocky Mountains on the other.
What is your favourite app?
I am an Apple evangelist. First, I love the wallet app - all my tickets in one app. Second, the DB Navigator - journey planner, booking and real-time information all in one app. Last but not least, I like using WhatsApp.
