Rail business travel, an opportunity for the rail industry

April 24, 2013
Author: Philip Martin

There is a theory that a rail journey over 4 hours is not attractive for business travel. I tried personally how is it to travel on a business trip by rail and the opportunity that this can mean for the rail industry.

I’ve been travelling more and more by rail for business. Due to the easiness of booking rail travel as part of my total trip. In our corporate booking tool Amadeus e-Travel Management we can sell French rail services and their partner railways such as Thalys and Eurostar.

Door-to-door travel experience for business travellers

The first thing that comes to our mind when going from London to Paris is checking for flights. But taking the Eurostar is a great alternative that is giving business travel a total door-to-door travel experienceOn my last journey from London to Paris, it all ran smoothly, starting my working day on the Eurostar train. Arriving in Paris door-to-door in about 2:30h.

Onboard services: a must for rail business travel

New onboard services are more and more requested. Eurostar offers the possibility to order you a taxi on arrival at some French train stations. WIFI is a must for the business traveller. I was looking forward to my Thalys trip because once onboard Wi-Fi service and get my emails done.

All in all, I will continue to take the train for longer journeys outside of the 4-hour business “comfort” zone, as long as they fit into my schedule and have easy connections.
